Our Mission

The mission of America’s Wild Horse Advocates (AWHA) is to:

Promote the preservation, protection and welfare of wild horses and burros on Public Lands.

Promote and directly engage in activities relating to excess wild horses and burros, including their transportation, training, rehabilitation and placement.

Provide input and assistance to the managing agencies in the monitoring, assessment, management, and humane oversight of wild horses and burros on the range and in holding areas.

Engage in educational outreach to students and to the public-at-large concerning the nature, history, needs and humane uses of wild horses and burros through various means, including live horse demonstrations.

Explore, obtain, and coordinate sources for funding, including memberships, donations, grants, fairs, and other fund raising activities.

What We DO ..

AWHA works with federal agencies to build long-term hands-on management plans for herds of the range and develops programs to promote adoption and beneficial use of wild horses, as well as awareness of wild horse issues through education and public relations. AWHA rescues, rehabilitates, gentles, and trains wild horses to facilitate their successful adoption to good homes. Our current focus is on placing wild horses into public service programs suitable for their adaptability and capabilities.

Bios:

Garnet Pasquale – President

Garnet Pasquale may be one of the newest wild horse advocates, but she has been extremely active in the organizing events, and general public education regarding this serious issue.

Joining America’s Wild Horse Advocates shortly after it was founded slightly less than 2 years ago, she was elected to the position of president of the group in June of this year, following the resignation of original founder and president, Billie Young. AWHA’s focus is Wild Horses in Public Service, and Garnet has spent much time and resources researching and making national contacts to further that goal.

With a background of over 25 years in marketing, she is currently secretary to the Executive Chef at Wynn Las Vegas. It could be further noted that Garnet is a city girl, who doesn’t have a horse, never had a horse, and has no plans to have one of her own in the future. She simply strongly supports what Velma “Wild Horse Annie” Johnson said many years ago: "These horses belong to all the people of America and they exist on lands that belong to all the people of America."

Trisha Stewart - Vice President

Trisha Stewart is a natural at gentling wild horses. In addition to working with AWHA’s Taser and Bullet, she cares for her own two dead-broke horses Tristan and Takota. Trisha also helps with two new wild horses that her family has recently adopted, and still finds time to help with occasional rescues and gentling of foster horses for BLM adoption program in Clark County. Trisha is a real treasure to AWHA and a great friend and supporter of all wild horses everywhere.

"

Eunice Ruark – Secretary

  • Eunice Ruark was born and raised in Pennsylvania, became a military wife, and lived in the Philippines as well as various areas on the East Coast. She had her own horse for a short time when station in South Carolina. Always an animal lover, she moved to Las Vegas 23 years ago and is a retired apartment manager with three grown children and eight grandchildren. Eunice joined AWHA because she strongly believes what is being done to the wild horses is terribly wrong.

Rhea Little – Director

  • Rhea Little was raised on Jackson Hole Wyoming. She is a mother of four and works as a Southern Nevada Real Estate agent. Rhea has spent many years volunteering with various Wildlife groups. Upon moving to Cold Creek in November of 2006, she immediately became interested in the plight of the wild horses and burros.
“I wanted to work with a group that helps the wild horses, and I loved the idea of having the already gathered horses have a chance at a new and productive life as Wild Horses in Public Service. AWHA stood out as a group that worked toward finding good permanent placement for the horses, where they can maintain their pride and dignity, and still be seen and enjoyed by the American public.”

Our daughter's love for wild horses rubbed off on us and from that I learned how
much these magnificent animals needed our help. Working with Bullet and Taser I have learned a great deal about their minds, they do not hate, but fear, and to gain their trust is one of the most rewarding things I have done. Now I have Nizhone to call my own (as much as a human can "own" this free spirit). I continue to learn about not only their minds, but their hearts. I feel it is now my duty to help the wild horses with their battle to remain just that - WILD HORSES."
